Addressing the Growing Shortage of Accounting Faculty

In response to the growing shortage of academically–qualified university accounting faculty members, especially those with recent experience in the practice of auditing and tax, concerned practitioners, leaders from over 70 of the largest firms and over 45 state CPA societies have joined together to fund the Accounting Doctoral Scholars (ADS) Program. Sponsors have committed financial support totaling over $17 million over an eight-year period for the Program.

Program Administration

The Accounting Doctoral Scholars Program was launched in June 2008 and is administered under the oversight of an Advisory Council comprised of representatives of the funding entities. The ADS Program is administered through the AICPA Foundation and is managed under the guidance of an Executive Director and a Program Manager.

Beginning July 1, 2010, the ADS Program is accepting applications for support of eligible candidates who will be applying for entry into an accounting doctoral program beginning in the fall of 2011 at a participating university.

First Class Enrollees

A total of 30 applicants, with an average GMAT of 718, were selected as ADS Program Scholars for enrollment in accounting doctoral programs for Fall 2009. Two withdrew for personal reasons and reapplied for 2010 enrollment. One scholar did not secure placement at his school(s) of choice.

We are pleased to congratulate the 27 ADS Program Scholars listed attached who enrolled in doctoral programs in the Fall of 2009.

We are also pleased that several candidates who were not selected as ADS Program Scholars received university funding for enrollment in the Fall of 2009.

Second Class of ADS Program Scholars

For enrollment in doctoral programs for Fall 2010, again 30 candidates were selected as ADS Program Scholars with an average GMAT of 718. These candidates are currently applying for admission to doctoral programs at participating universities of their choice.
